The Hardest Button To Button
Few games are titled with such clarity as ClickPlay. The entire point is to click on the button labelled Play. Of course, it isn’t quite so simple. It’s a twenty-screen puzzle game. Clicking on various objects or dragging them across the screen in the correct order will eventually reveal the Play button. Click on that to advance to the next puzzle. you should comfortably finish it before you’ve finished your sandwich.

Let’s Play With Some Wet, Bouncing Balls
I think I like what Deflectorpool is trying to do more than I like what it actually succeeds in doing. It’s a frantic puzzle game with some neat ideas, but there’s something missing. You move a coloured ball, which is submerged under the water filling half the play area. Other balls drop into the water at a steady rate, occasionally bouncing off the plank floating in the centre of the screen. If you touch a like-coloured ball, you’ll collect it for points; if you hold down the mouse button as you touch a different coloured ball, it will bounce off but you’ll take on its colour. If a ball falls all the way to bottom of the screen, the water level rises, and it’s game over when it overflows.Things start fairly slowly, with just two colours making things readily manageable. But once a third is introduced, my brain struggled to adjust with juggling the necessary colours. It all gets a bit too frantic. Maybe you’ll fare better?

One Grimm Adventure
You know the story of Hansel and Gretel, of course. Well, here it’s Gretel and Hansel, rearranged thusly because you control Gretel and, frankly, Hansel is a bit of a dunce. It’s a point-and-click adventure game taking its cue from the likes of Samorost rather than LucasArts. Screens are self-contained puzzles involving often elaborate and always contrived interactions. For example, to wake your brother in the opening scene, you must shoot him with your slingshot… but only when the fly is buzzing right above his head.It can get a little obtuse, and you will end up clicking randomly on every interactable object, but it also looks quite lovely so you won’t mind spending a little longer than strictly necessary in its twisted little world.

I Just Headshot A Sheep
Take some tower defence, various elements from the Roguelike RPG, and then sprinkle some Duck Hunt over the top of it all. Also, you can shoot sheep in the head.Elona Shooter tasks you with defending your castle from wave after wave of creatures. The Duck Hunt element comes in with the way you have to manually aim by guiding the crosshair over your targets with the mouse. It gets quite tricky with the swifter variety of creatures. To help in the defence, you can upgrade your castle walls, recruit henchmen to increase your firepower and hire various workmen to repair the castle, or add bonuses to your experience or loot collected. You can also level up your character, bringing in new skills, and shop for a wealth of new weapons and modifications. There’s a Hardcore mode that autosaves to ensure you only ever get one chance, in true Roguelike style. It all adds up to a surprisingly complex, rewarding and compulsive game.Don’t forget to sign up to Kongregate and add “KotakuAU” as a friend.

The Italian Job
This game is called Mini Racing. Ten points if you can guess what it’s all about.Fans of Super Sprint and, well, just about any subsequent top-down racing game will immediately feel at home here. Each track is a single screen. You press up to accelerate, left and right to steer, spacebar for a nitro and CTRL to drop an oil slick. It’s just you and three other Mini Coopers in a race to the death.Don’t pick the Mini with the Union Jack on its roof though. It’s crap.Oh, I should mention I’ve set up a KotakuAU account at Kongregate. Add me as a friend.

It’s Time To
Crates are tremendously useful objects, even more so in video games. You can jump on them to reach inaccessible areas. You can break them to reveal loot. Which really is what games are all about. But what if you had a Crate Gun?In Another Chateau (did you see what they did there?) is a typical platformer/puzzler where you must simply get to the exit on every screen. You can run and jump, but most of the time the next platform will be too high.Lucky you have a Crate Gun, capable of spewing forth an unlimited number of square wooden boxes. You can then push these around, stacking them up, careful not to topple them over, and create new platforms to traverse the level. Also, keep an eye out for – not the princesses – but the mesdemoiselles.

Almost Too Pretty To Shoot
The aptly-named Pyroblossom is a vertically-scrolling shoot ‘em up like many others. It has vaguely “bullet hell” sensibilities, but what truly sets it apart is just how damn pretty everything is.So long as your idea of pretty is some wacked out psychedelia whipped up in MS Paint. And it’s got a powerup called a “Psycho”.

Link Is A Red-Haired Girl
Anyone who played A Link to the Past will feel immediately at home amongst the cute-but-squashed environs of Skipmore’s latest browser adventure. Except you play a girl.Ignore the intimidating Japanese text at the outset. Fairune is simple enough to pick up. Arrow keys move you around; attacking a creature is as straightforward as walking into it; items can be used by hitting spacebar and cycling through your inventory. It’s a maze game at heart. Your progress is measured by whether you can work out where and when you’re meant to use certain items to unlock new paths. Best of all, you ought to be able to finish it comfortably within your lunch break.

Be The Running Man
Not quite sure how I managed to not mention Canabalt on a previous LunchTimeWaster. But here it is, the greatest ever one-button game about running very fast.In Canabalt you’re on the run, across rooftops and through office buildings, smashing windows and scattering pigeons as you go. You run automatically, so the only thing required of the player is when to jump, timing your leap from one skyscraper to the next or vaulting over trashcans and air vents. The only objective is to keep going without dying and see how far you get. How far can you get?
